On it you can find many popular books in the public domain available for download.<\/p>\n<p>The one I&#8217;ve been reading is from 1852.  I just read Jill a part from the section on &#8220;Tulipomania&#8221;, a fascinating social phenomenon in which the following was once traded for a single tulip bulb:<\/p>\n<p>Two lasts of wheat \t448<br \/>\nFour lasts of rye \t558<br \/>\nFour fat oxen \t480<br \/>\nEight fat swine \t240<br \/>\nTwelve fat sheep \t120<br \/>\nTwo hogsheads of wine \t70<br \/>\nFour tuns of beer \t32<br \/>\nTwo tuns of butter \t192<br \/>\nOne thousand lbs. of cheese \t120<br \/>\nA complete bed \t100<br \/>\nA suit of clothes \t80<br \/>\nA silver drinking-cup \t60<\/p>\n<p>This totals 2500 florins, a very large sum for the seventeenth century.  Other rare bulbs were sold for 6000 florins!<\/p>\n<p>This section is a valuable lesson in stock prices and the speculative madness of the masses investors can learn from even today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I found a great site called Gutenberg.
