Savage 2

I like gaming on my Mac. I have for over a decade. It’s embarrassing how many hours I’ve logged on games like World of Warcraft, Lineage, Shadowbane, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, Starcraft 1 and 2, Diablo, Angband/Moria, Geneforge, Marathon 1, 2, and 3, Myth 1 and 2, Hordes of Orcs, Knights of the Old Republic, Avernum, Age of Empires 1 and 2, Icewind Dale, Jedi Knight 2, Lords of the Realm 2, Penumbra, Warcraft 1, 2, and 3, Wesnoth, Plants vs Zombies, Civilization 2 and 4, Half Life 1 and 2, Oni, Geneforge, Heroes of Might and Magic 5, Dragon Age, Morrowind 3, Mass Effect 1, Risen, Cythera, Medal of Honor, Myst 1, Dungeon Siege, etc. And those are just the ones I can think of right now. (Note to self: Maybe I should play less games and more guitar…)

Lately, I’ve been playing a lesser-known game called Savage 2. It’s a really neat concept in game design. It’s got great graphics and is free to play. You *can* pay for it, but even if you do it’s a one-time $10 and that’s it. All paying for the game does is add some minor features you don’t really need to enjoy the game anyway.

It’s neat how the game combines elements of a real-time strategy game with a first-person shooter. One downside is that it has a steep learning curve and it’s easy to get beat on at first until you get better. But after a few games it gets much easier to help your team out. Only a few hundred people are on at any one time, as it’s getting older and everyone’s playing WoW. But I like it a lot.

If you’re a gamer, check this one out, hopefully I’ll see you on there!
