Hiking

Today we left Alice at Grammy’s house and went hiking in Lancaster/Leominster forests. Here’s an aerial shot of where we were:

Notice all the green without anything else around! It is beautiful forest. We hiked past the Nashua River, past a wide open swath with power lines that go for miles and miles, then up a big hill where we could see to the horizon in an almost 360 degree view. We could see Mt. Monadnock and all the other smaller mountains in the area. Jeremy Pendleton and I hiked there earlier this week, and I intended to bring Jill since then. We hiked a couple hours, sat in the sand by the river, and enjoyed nature.

The forest is beautiful this time of year. The mosquitoes are not all hatched yet so you can hike without swatting at a swarm. The forest is just leafy enough to look green and fresh, but sparse enough that you can see a long way through. It’s pleasantly warm but not too hot.

It was an Elysian hiking experience, I’ll definitely be going back soon.
