Today after lessons I went to karate, and the whole class was a big dodgeball tournament! My team of four won the whole thing, despite the entire class wanting to cream us. At the end of class, we were awarded medals as the entire class broke out into the “Star-Spangled Banner” while saluting the flag (this was totally spontaneous). Then they all clapped for us.
I stayed after karate for the Chanbara class, which is basically whacking each other with padded weapons of the samauri variety. It’s lots of fun, but the equipment is pretty expensive. No one gets hurt, but it’s fast and furious fighting. My favorite weapon is the short sword, which is only about a foot and a half long. It’s fast and challenging to learn.
