Guantanamo

I just finished watching The Road to Guantanamo, a drama/documentary on the internment camps at Guantanamo Bay. It follows the lives of a few British Muslim kids as they find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time during the bombings after 2001. The three that survived are taken to the camps, tortured, interrogated, and held by the US for two years without being charged with anything. Of the ~750 prisoners held there, only ten have been formally charged (as of the date of this movie, 2006).

This site gives some facts on the place. Another article examines where the prisoners come from, and a third discusses statistics of starving prisoners. I’m sure there’s lots more out there.

I don’t watch news, so I know everyone reading this has probably already heard enough of this, but it’s new to me. And it doesn’t do much to make me more patriotic.
