Crafter Advice

After a week of various craft experiences I have learned some things:

1. Craft fairs can be hit or miss. Location is key, and the closer to Boston the better (i.e. Pepperell is pretty far outside of Boston!). If a fair is an annual one then it tends to have a good turnout. Ones that are new, like mine in Pepperell, don’t tend to bring as many people in. I talked with a lot of other vendors at my fair and they gave me a lot of advice based on their experiences.

2. Word-of-mouth is the strongest marketing strategy! I spend 5 hours at that craft fair and didn’t make enough to cover my $20 table. However, tonight I went to our Young Life Christmas dinner and through word of mouth, and a quick run back home to get my goods, I sold 6 bags and 3 record bowls! Yipee! I was so encouraged by everyones feedback 🙂

3. You never know what certain people are going to like. At the fair I had one bag that I kept hidden in the box because I thought it seemed crooked. Later on I took it out and my neighboring vendor told me it was her favorite! Tonight it was of the first ones to sell. Some people like long handles, some go for the stripes, and some many people didn’t even look twice at the one which I love the most (and am glad that I get to keep toteing my lunch in it!) So, I reccomend variety and that when given the opportunity to put out everything you got!

That’s all folks!
