Lesson Leaned

I was going to blog about a lovely hike we had. I still will. However, it has turned out to be a lesson in foolishness. Alice asked what this word meant when we were reading Chicken Little. Foolishness has a new definition. Foolisness is forgetting what poison ivy is and playing with it on a hike. GAk!

Did you remember how sneaky poison Ivy is? At Conservation Camp we learned well, “leaves of three, let it be”. But, no one EVER taught me a rhyme about “hairy vine, shouldn’t be used for play time”. And, yes, that’s just what we did. Ben made it act like a hairy monster and it chased us all through the trails (like that monster book from Hairy Potter – pun shamefully intended) Not only did we PLAY with the nasty hairy vine, we climbed every vine in the forest, swung from them, and yes, I have a lovely picture of my daughter holding it!!! Bad Mom! Thankfully, she has her fathers wonderful, wonderful genes. No allergies for Ben or Alice. The Mother on the other hand? Oh yes, that monster snuck up behind me once and tickeled me on my face. Gaaaaaa!!

Look at this. See that nasty hairy vine? Ee gads… I can’t even look at it or my face breaks out in burn. Yes, indeed, I have poison ivy on my face in all it’s glory. I have never appreciated calomine lotion so much!!

I almost forgot, the LOVELY HIKE part. It was lovely. It is my favorite family past time. We explored the Bolton Lime Kiln and loved it. 🙂

WordPress is being gracious with me and it honsestly won’t upload that picture of Alice holding the vine. Thank you, WordPress, thank you.

AND, I actually just read up a bit on this nasty vine and found some new helpful phrases to teach our children” Hairy rope? don’t be a dope!” “Hairy vine, no friend of mine”

  1. Leif

“Auntie jill had a big boo-boo on her face”.. poor auntie! But “Thanks for sleep-over!”

  2. Gah! Just reading this has made me break out in blisters! I’m itching all over!

I hope you’re less itchy soon!
