Intercession

We did a study on this a couple weeks ago in our church (thanks to Jeremy Pendleton). I learned that it’s literally “going between” another person and God and pleading their case. In a few cases in the Bible, this was a life-and-death situation where the intercessor actually said or did something life-threatening in order to intercede. Example (from Exodus 32):

“So Moses returned to the Lord and said, ‘Alas, this people has sinned a great sin. They have made for themselves gods of gold. But now, if you will forgive their sin—but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written.’”

Moses literally places himself between God and his people. It’s like he’s saying, “You have to go through me first!” Anyway, one of the most powerful examples of this is in the following clip (start the movie at 4:50):

I think I almost cried when I saw this in the theater the first time. It’s just a perfect example of what intercession really is!

“Peepiceek (the second in command of the mice) and the other mice prepare to cut off their own tails to avoid bearing an honour denied to their leader. This solidarity convinces Aslan to restore Reepicheep’s tail, apparently not ‘for the sake of his dignity’, as Aslan states, but for the love Reepicheep’s people bear him.”
