Almost every electric guitar player takes pride in his rig, or his collection of equipment. This is similar to computer geeks telling you what kind of processor they have and how much memory, or a mechanically-minded guy telling you what’s under the hood of his car/truck. Most people don’t understand, which only makes the geek/musician/tinker feel even more proud of his toys. Those that do care will understand instantly and will love discussing the various merits of different parts and gadgets.
Anyhow, I’ve been updating my guitar rig, and today I just got to a point of relative contentment. One of the fun things about a rack mounted system is that you can trade in one piece of it at a time rather than replacing the whole thing. Here’s what it has:
– Furman power conditioner (basically a glorified power strip)
– SansAmp PSA-1 preamp and tube emulation
– TC Electronics G-Sharp for effects
– BBE MaxCom for compression, gate, and “sonic maximixer” (messes with EQ a little)
All this rack stuff goes into a Tech21 PowerEngine 60 that I specifically got for the non-coloration of sound by the full-range speaker inside. LED’s are just eye candy I installed myself 🙂 Here’s some pictures:
