Driver Ed

This past week I took driver’s ed. It was 30 hours of classroom time in five days. I actually had a lot of fun hanging out with teenagers. At lunch I brought a hacky sack and some guys and I played for about 40 minutes straight each day. One kid was inspired and went home and practiced for an hour and a half! Another kid was a total beginner when we started and by the end of the week was doing really well. I met this nice home-schooled girl and we chatted about her education and family. She’s really smart *and* well-adjusted socially. Another girl asked if she could request me personally for her driving times! That was nice!

My intention is to become a driving instructor. All I need now is 24 hours of driving time (observation) and a trip to the registry to complete my state-mandated training.

This will be a good job for some extra income. I’ll be doing what I love to do – teaching one-on-one. My boss is very flexible on the hours I work, so I can basically create my own schedule!

Should I succeed in this endeavor, I’ll hold the following jobs:

1) Guitar teacher
2) Friendly, traveling computer geek (for two local companies)
3) Farmer
4) Driving instructor

And I can do all that without working too much!

  1. We took driver ed together? I didn’t even remember that. Man, my memory is horrible… sounds like something I would do though!

  2. Julie Napoli

Driving instructor? I’m having flashbacks to the days of taking Drivers Ed in High School when you kicked the back of my seat while I was backing up, and the driving instructor screamed “Ben, the car is not a toy!”.
