Site Statistics

I found a free site statistics tool today. For those of you that have no idea what that is, it keeps track of questions like:

  1. Who’s visiting my site?
  2. How long did they stay?
  3. Where did they come from, and where are they going?
  4. What browser are they using?
  5. What size screen are they using?
  6. Is the user returning, or is this their first time?

As you can see, these questions are very helpful to web developers who try to bring in traffic to their site. I don’t claim to be a professional in that area, but I do like to see who’s visiting and how they got to our site.

I did take the old counter off, which has been around since 2003 and had about 36,000 hits on it. That was kind of sad, but the truth is a ton of those hits were me or Jill when we were surfing, editing, or blogging to our own site. Since this tool blocks hits from my computer, it should represent a more accurate count of hits from this day forward. Also, the counter is now set to show only unique visitors, not page views. Therefore it will only increment once when someone visits, rather than increment for each section of the site viewed.

A few minutes after I installed the tool, I checked it and found that out of three visitors, two were from far away! I wonder if this ratio will stay like this?

  1. Ooh Ooh! That’s me! I’m the blue one!
