Young Adult lit.

I am so in love with my class – Reading Interests of Young Adults – and have been enjoying my projects and research so much! I need to keep a log of various YA media and write reviews. In order to get a good variety I have been asking different teens I know for advice on books. One student brought me in some anime books, and i started reading one last night. It took me a while to figure out that it reads from back to front and right to left! Once i finally got it, i could actually read and understand it – hoping to finish it tonight! I need to do 35 reviews total (music, tv, books, etc) …anyone have recommendations?

Melanie – yay! I am so thankful for your comment and leads 🙂 I just got the Twilight book from a friend who is in high school. Also, i just finished Monster and enjoyed it. I will add your recommendations to my list. Actually, I would love to get your contact info and ask you more library things….. 🙂

I hope you are doing the Stephanie Meyers books. They won’t stay on the shelves in Northeast Ohio. There are the standbys–Cirque Du Freak, Gossip Girls, and the Angus Thongs…series. Also, on the young end of YA, you can do things like the Stories from East High (High School Musical spin-off chapter books) and maybe Hannah Montana chapter books.

When I took YA lit in library school the books I really liked that we had to read were Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers (and yes, I basically like all of Walter Dean Myers YA books), Weetzie Bat by Francesca Lia Block, and Make Lemonade by Virginia Euwer Wolff. There were an even longer list of books I couldn’t stand, so I hope this helps.
